TRAINING :: Equipment
There is a lot of equipment involved in even the simplest search and rescue function. Communication equipment, navigation equipment, technical equipment, uniforms... Each team member is responsible for acquiring and maintaining their own uniforms and equipment.
Basic SAR Gear
Basic Search and Rescue gear is fairly straight forward. The basis for SAR gear is the 24 hour pack. This pack contains the minimal amount of equipment for a rescuer to safely search and navigate their search area. This gear includes a durable backpack, first aid supplies, a compass and map reading aids, emergency harness material, food and water.
The 24 hour pack is required on all SAR outings and trainings.
Clothing
Proper clothing can make the difference between life and death. In the Inland Empire Area we can experience temperatures of 110+ degrees in the valleys during the summers and sub zero temperatures in the mountains during the winters. There is a correct type of clothing for each situation and most of it is expensive.
Technical Gear
Technical gear is all of the equipment that will allow a rescuer to get into and out of high angle situations quickly and safely. Ascending and descending systems to get yourself up and down a rope, pulleys and lowering racks to move heave loads up or down, and the medical equipment required to treat a victim should they require it. Like proper clothing, high quality technical gear comes with a high price tag.
